Mid-America Nutrition Program, Inc.
Mid-America Nutrition Program has been a Meals on Wheels provider since before 1981. We deliver a hot, nutritious noon meal each weekday to homebound people age 60 years and better in Anderson, Coffey, Franklin, Linn, Miami and Osage Counties in east central Kansas. Each meal provides 1/3 of the recommended daily allowance of nutrients.
MANP delivers much more than just a well-balanced meal. It also delivers:
- A friendly face - Volunteers enjoy delivering meals, and meal recipients enjoy the daily contact with those volunteers. For some, the Meals on Wheels volunteer may be the only person a homebound person might see each day.
- Peace of Mind - Children, other family members and friends of homebound persons rest assured that if they cannot check up on their loved one each day, the Meals on Wheels volunteer makes sure that everything is all right.
- Independence - Meals on Wheels allows seniors to remain in their own homes and in their own neighborhoods rather than in assisted living facilities or nursing homes. It allows them to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible.
Weekend meals are available to those who are homebound and at risk of institutionalization.
For seniors who are not homebound, we provide nutritionally-balanced meals at 25 nutrition sites in the six-county area.
In 2015 we will prepare about 100,000 meals for sites and 100,000 meals for home delivery.
All of our meals are prepared daily in our own kitchens in Ottawa and Pleasanton, Kansas from menus certified by a licensed dietician and delivered by vans to our sites. From our sites, an army of dedicated volunteers delivers meals to those who are confined to their homes.
