About Mid-America Nutrition Program, Inc.
MANP is a non-profit organization. A Board of directors made up of caring individuals from each county oversees the management of the organization, and each year our financial statements are audited by CPAs. MANP has been run efficiently, and it is in good financial condition.
Our financial goal each year is to cover our costs and not generate deficits or surpluses. It costs us $5.72 for each site-delivered meal, and $6.31 for each home-delivered meal.
MANP is a “participative” program. That means it is not entirely funded by the government, but relies heavily on each individual community and each individual that receives a meal to help pay for that meal. In fact, individual donations are the largest source of funding that we have. MANP receives 40% of its funding from individuals’ donations, 53% of its funding from federal and state tax dollars, and 7% from counties. Despite relying so heavily on donations from individuals, MANP never denies a meal to anyone in need who is over 60 .

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who is eligible for Meals on Wheels?
All persons 60 years and older and their spouse are eligible for nutrition services. They must be homebound or isolated. An evaluation of need must be completed by an East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging (ECKAAA) assessor to qualify for home-delivered meals. People under age 60 with disabilities and who reside at home with an eligible senior are also eligible.
How do I apply?
Call 785-242-8341 (or toll free 800-223-6325) to schedule an assessment. Referrals for service can come from virtually any source: doctors, social workers, neighbors, relatives or friends. Or you may call to set up service for yourself.
How much will the meal cost?
The suggested donation for a person age 60+ is $3.00 per meal. No one is denied a meal if they are unable to donate.
Meals are funded in part through the Older Americans Act, the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), county funds as well as United Way of Franklin County and United Way of Paola. The program depends on private contributions for the remainder of its operating costs.
Who delivers the meals?
Staff and volunteers deliver meals.
When are meals delivered?
Meals are delivered between 10:45 a.m. and 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday.
You must be at home to accept the meal. Meals will not be left outside.
Please call ahead of time if you know you are not going to be home to receive a meal.
How do I stop meal service or make changes?
To request a stop or a change in meal delivery, call your local site or 785-242-8341.
Are meals delivered during bad weather?
Very rarely, the weather keeps our drivers from delivering meals. Anticipating such events, we supply every Meals on Wheels consumer with frozen or shelf stable meals to be used when road conditions do not allow regular delivery.
